Aussies on Tour: Wait finally over as Korn Ferry Tour resumes

After four months spent sitting on the sidelines the Australian Korn Ferry Tour contingent return en masse this week at the LECOM Suncoast Classic in Florida.

As Adam Scott prepares to defend his title at the PGA TOUR’s Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles, a mix of young guns and veterans recommence a Korn Ferry Tour season that began last January and won’t be completed until September 5.

It gives every player longer to play their way onto the PGA TOUR in 2022 with Brett Drewitt currently the best-positioned Aussie to earn promotion courtesy of his victory at the Lincoln Land Championship last September.

Making his first start since the Orange County National Championship in October, Drewitt missed the cut in this corresponding event last year and is one of six Aussies along with two Kiwis in the field this week.

Like Drewitt, Curtis Luck has already tasted victory in this extended Korn Ferry Tour season but despite his win at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship sits just outside the top 25 who will earn automatic promotion to the PGA TOUR, currently 29th on the moneylist.

Scott’s quest for a third win at Riviera begins in esteemed company in the early hours of Friday morning, paired with current world No.1 Dustin Johnson and three-time tournament champion Bubba Watson.

Also flying the Aussie flag in the limited-field event are Masters runner-up Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman, Cameron Davis and Matt Jones.
