"RoadFor the first time, amateur golfers have been able to win their way inside the ropes at a PGA Tour of Australasia tournament with the inaugural TX Civil and Logistics Road to the Outback Challenge.

An initiative to involve keen golfers in the TX Civil and Logistics WA PGA Championship, golf clubs across Western Australia ran qualifying events as part of the Road to the Outback Challenge.

The top six teams, consisting of two players, from each of the four events held since the start of the year have earned the privilege of playing inside the ropes alongside the Professionals making the cut at the TX Civil and Logistics WA PGA Championship.

While not competing in the same competition as the Professionals, the amateurs will play a best ball format with their team mate, playing at the same time as the Professionals but not actually using the Pro’s scores.

The Kalgoorlie Golf Course is an incredibly unique golf layout and the PGA of Australia wanted to share it with golfers throughout Western Australia.

36 amateurs will travel from across the state to experience the special desert course and will be joined on course by 14 Goldfields Golf Club members who will have a home course advantage.

"Kalgoorlie Golf Course really does need to be experienced to be believed. It is one of the best layouts in Australia and visually it’s stunning with the green fairways contrasting with the red desert," said Josh Madden, State Manager of the WA / SA Division of the PGA of Australia.

"We wanted to bring as many people to Kalgoorlie as we could to experience it for themselves and hopefully spread the word to their golf club and friends about what a hidden gem this is."

Along with their weekend of golf the amateurs will enjoy the Kalgoorlie hospitality.

"Through the PGA Tour of Australasia we already bring in excess of 100 Professional golfers to Kalgoorlie, but when some of them miss the cut, we saw it as a great opportunity to bring 50 amateur golfers to the area as well," added Madden.

"One of our key priorities is to ensure the Goldfields region benefits from hosting a Professional golf tournament and this is another way of ensuring we generate some economic benefits for businesses in the area."
