After narrowly missing a PGA TOUR card last
year veteran Steve Allan has picked up where he left off in 2016, the Victorian
taking top Australian honours at the Web.com’s Brasil Champions event at the
weekend.
Allan posted rounds of 69-65-67-67 at the
Sao Paulo Golf Club to finish 16-under for the week and T12.
It was Allan’s best finish from four starts
in what is a disjointed start to the season but with the schedule becoming more
consistent from this point on, this week’s performance has come at just the
right time.
The 42-year-old has now broken 70 in six of
his last eight rounds and will take plenty of confidence into the next stretch
of events.
Allan was clearly the pick of the
Australians this week with Bronson La’Cassie and Bryden Macpherson, the only
others to make the cut, both finishing T71 at 4-under for the tournament.
La’Cassie, who has limited playing
opportunities on the secondary Tour, fired rounds of 70-67-72-71 while
Macpherson made a solid start but couldn’t go on with it.
The former British Amateur champion opened
with a 5-under 66 but came home with rounds of 71-71 and a 1-over round of 72
to finish.
Adam Crawford, who like La’Cassie has
limited status on the Tour this year, got a late call-up to play in Brazil but missed
the cut by a stroke despite a desperate eagle at the par-5 17th in
round two.
Also missing the weekend’s play were Mathew
Goggin, Oliver Goss, Greg Chalmers and Brett Drewitt.
