PGA Life Member Dan Cullen DFC is set to be featured on Today Tonight’s ANZAC Day coverage in recognition of his service to the Air Force.

After becoming a PGA Professional at the age of 14, Cullen went on the win the WA Open in 1937 and 38 before joining the Air Force in 1941.

Learning to fly a war plane before he had driven a car, Cullen was part of the 460 Squadron piloting Lancaster Bombers in World War Two.

Throughout his time in World War Two Cullen flew 31 missions across Europe, mostly over France and was highly thought of by his team for being calm under pressure and caring of his team in the air.

Cullen returned to Australia a decorated Officer having been awarded the distinguished Flying Cross for acts of valor, courage or devotion to duty whilst flying in active operations against the enemy.

Since the war Cullen spent nine years as the Pro at Rosewell before moving to St Michael’s where he was the Pro for 24 years. In this time he and his wife also built the Dan Cullen Driving Range which still remains in operation today.

Currently 98 years of age Dan Cullen is in good health, tells a fantastic story and will proudly participate in ANZAC Day celebrations today with a wreath laying at the Sydney Cenotaph.

Speaking of his time with the Air Force during World War Two Cullen said, "I take great pride in the air force. I think the air force training and the air force career, I don’t think it’s done nothing but good for me,

"I think, even today, I think it’s always in the back of your mind; you sort of put your life on the line, you’ve sort of taken over yourself, there’s something you didn’t want to do, you’ve taken hold of yourself and you’ve done the bloody job, you’ve got on with it and you’ve come home again."
