Richardson fires at right time

Tasmania’s Kalem Richardson posted his best result of the year at just the right time on the Asian Tour, his T5 at this week’s Chiangmai Classic vaulting him into the top 60 on the Order of Merit and a chance to retain his card for next season.

Tasmania’s Kalem Richardson posted his best result of the year at just the right time on the Asian Tour, his T5 at this week’s Chiangmai Classic vaulting him into the top 60 on the Order of Merit and a chance to retain his card for next season.

Having earned his card at Q-School at the start of the year Richardson struggled to find his way with five missed cuts in 10 starts and a previous best finish of T13 in September.

But the 26-year-old backed up a superb third round of 8-under 64 with a respectable final round 71 to finish 11-under for the week and post his first top 10 of the season.

With only the top 60 earners guaranteed of playing privileges for 2015 the high finish and US $27,862 cheque were timely, Richardson moving to 52nd on the list with five events left on the schedule.

Scot Barr was next best among the Australians finishing T7 with the form player of the past month, Scott Hend, cooling off to be in a share of 16th.

Terry Pilkadaris finished on the same score as Hend and maintained his place in the top 60 earners to now lie 53rd.

Adam Groom (T36), Kieran Pratt (T42), Unho Park (T48), Sam Brazel (T53) and Jack Munro (59th) were the other Australians to make the cut.
