After much anticipation round one of the Qantas Fiji Teams Challenge commenced today at one of the most picturesque course’s in the world, Natadola Bay Golf Club.
Although the wind wasn’t as strong in today’s opening round as it was in the lead up to the event, Professionals found the going tough around the venue of the Fiji International, with only Matthew Millar managing to break par.
Millar fired a 4-under 68 to hold a four shot lead over Blair Riordan, while Sam Lee and Tim Hart found themselves a further shot back to be tie for third.
Millar’s round included five birdies and could have been even better after making a bogey at the par 5, fifth hole.
"This is a pretty amazing course, possibly one of the toughest courses I have played," said Mitchell Brown, winner of last week’s Capricorn Coast Invitational.
"Although I am not all that happy with my round of 77 today, tomorrow is another day and hopefully I can learn from the errors I made out there on the course today. There is no doubt this is a beautiful part of the world and I look forward to moving in the right direction over the final two rounds."
