Fowler hunting major success

Peter Fowler might be the hottest over 50 player in the world right now but he will fly under the radar as the US Senior Open this week.

"PeterFowler, who notched back-to-back wins in
Europe two weeks ago, shot the lowest score of the week at the US Senior PGA at
the brutally difficult French Lick course last month and has been in fine form
ever since.

That second round 67 began a run of golf
which has since included a T2 followed by the back-to-back victories.

While the field at Del Paso Country Club in
California will be stronger than he encounters most weeks in Europe, Fowler
will be as confident as any in the field and it would be no surprise if he was
in contention come Sunday.

Peter Senior is the only other Australian
in the field and though he has an outstanding record in the event tees up under
a bit of an injury cloud.

The 55-year-old has three top-10’s and two
top-15’s in his five appearances at the US Senior Open but was forced to
withdraw from the Constellation Senior Player’s Championship two weeks ago with
tendonitis in his elbow and shoulder.

Having missed the three Australian
tournaments last summer with a shoulder injury it has been a miserable run for
Senior who has achieved everything in the over-50’s game except a win on the
Champions Tour.

If his body holds up it would be no
surprise to see both he and Fowler near the pointy end of the leader board come
Sunday which would be fitting after the performance of the Australians at
Chambers Bay last week.
