Scott Arnold has qualifying through to this year’s Open overnight and adding his name to the growing Australian contingent gearing up to make a start at the spiritual home of golf this month.
Arnold was among 12 qualifiers to receive a start at the 144th Open; gained via final qualifying at Hillside Golf Club in Southport, England.
Also joining Arnold will be Kiwi and PGA Tour of Australasia regular, Ryan Fox, who qualified at Gailes Links Golf Club in Scotland.
Arnold was naturally excited to be retuning to St Andrews at a Pro after previously playing the course as an amateur eight years ago.
"I finished second in the St Andrews Links Trophy as an amateur in 2007 and played there in the Dunhill Links in 2009. It’s a very special place," said Arnold.
For Fox, The Open will be a first time experience and one he is over the moon about.
"This is massive. My first Major at the Home of Golf – it doesn’t get any better," said Fox.
Australian Professionals will be dominating the field at this year’s Open, with Arnold’s inclusion, 15 Aussies are set to tee off on July 12 including Adam Bland, Brett Rumford, Scott Strange, Marc Leishman, Scott Hend, Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott, Rod Pampling, Jason Day, John Senden, Marcus Fraser, Greg Chalmers, Steven Bowditch and Matt Jones.
