Gibson signed for rounds of 67-68-67-68 over the four days, good enough to be 10-under-par for the week and T6.
At 27th on the money list at the start of the week Gibson moved to 26th this week and is tantalisingly close to a 2016 PGA TOUR card but will need to keep up the good play to climb into the top 25 in coming weeks.
He was easily the best of the Australians in California where eight of the 13 who started survived to the weekend.
Mathew Goggin broke a run of eight consecutive missed cuts with opening rounds of 68-71 then went on to finish T37 with scores of 66-70.
After getting his year off the to the best possible start with victory in the first event of the season it’s been tough going for the Tasmanian who fell out of the top 25 earners this week.
While this week’s finish wasn’t enough to hold on to 25th position his golf was encouraging and it would be a surprise if he didn’t post some good results in coming weeks to earn his 2016 PGA TOUR card.
Alistair Presnell (T27), Bryden Macpherson (T46), Nick Flanagan (T59), Aron Price and Ash Hall (T63) and James Nitties (T72) were the others to make the cut with Steve Allan, Oliver Goss, Bronson La’Cassie and Adam Crawford missing out. Brett Drewitt withdrew during the second round.
