The golfing gods are smiling on Rohan Blizard at Brookwater Golf and Country Club today.
Playing in the final round of the Isuzu Queensland Open, Blizard headed to the par-5 8th hole two shots behind his playing partners and tournament leaders David Bransdon and Michael Choi.
He hit an extraordinary second shot from the middle of the fairway which missed the hole, located on the back left of the green, by millimetres. It would have been an incredible and rare albatross.
Blizard went onto make an eagle on the 8th and create a three way tie at the top of the leaderboard.
Not long later a huge roar could be heard around the course as Blizard this time found the hole with his approach shot into the green.
He had now added another eagle to his scorecard at the par-4 9th hole making it two on the trot.
The last player to have recorded consecutive eagles in the final round of a PGA Tour of Australasia tournament was Ryan Fox at the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship this year, he went on to win the title.
In just a matter of two holes, Blizard had gone from two shots down to leading the Isuzu Queensland Open by two shots.
After a dropped shot on the 10th which he picked back up on the 11th, Blizard then found himself in an unusual situation on the 12th.
With his tee shot coming to rest off the fairway, Blizard was clearing some sticks when he believed his ball moved and called a penalty on himself.
Despite a large number of spectators close by all strongly believing the ball didn’t move, Blizard couldn’t be swayed and showing huge amounts of sportsmanship the tournament leader insisted that he apply a one shot penalty and play from that position for his third.
Once again showing superior play with his irons, Blizard went onto hole out for par, receiving instant karmic relief for staying true to the spirit of golf and demonstrating true sportsmanship.
