Blitz Golf is back in 2019, bigger and better with two events played across two states each attracting superstar fields.

Touted as the T20 of golf and launched in April of 2018, Blitz Golf has made a mark on the Australian golf industry and will expand in 2019 with an event played at Curlewis Golf Club on the 4th January and a second event hosted by Glenelg Golf Club two days later.

Superstar fields are being assembled for both tournaments and here are 10 players we think you should be watching.

Ian Baker-Finch

"Ian

A legend of the game who needs little introduction, Ian Baker-Finch will be teeing it up in Adelaide in an exciting addition to the Blitz field. The 1991 Open Champion is now a highly-respected television commentator for CBS but when he is home in Australia he graces the fairways alongside his fellow Legends on the over-50’s circuit. Teeing it up against the “flat bellies” is a rare and special occurrence which golf fans in Adelaide should take full advantage of by heading out to Glenelg to watch IBF in action; he still has plenty of game!

Matthew Griffin

"Matt

A three-time winner on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia, Matt Griffin will be in action at both the Curlewis and Glenelg Blitz tournaments. A regular on the Japan Golf Tour, Griffin finished 30th on their Order of Merit this year after recording three top-10 finishes.

Matthew Millar

"Matt

Renowned as Mr Consistent on Tour, Matt Millar will be teeing it up in both the Glenelg and Curlewis Blitz events and golf fans should take note of how a golf course can be mastered without being overpowered. In 2018, Matt had another fantastic season and was recognised as the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia player of the year for a second time. His year was highlighted by a win in New Zealand and a further eight top-10 finishes.

Hannah Green

"Hannah

One of Australia’s brightest young talents, Hannah Green will be teeing it up at the Glenelg Blitz and she absolutely has what it takes to play against and beat the men in the field. Hannah turned pro at the end of 2016 and made an immediate impact on the world stage. Playing the Symetra Tour in 2017, Hannah amassed 12 top-10 finishes to secure full status on the LPGA this year. In her rookie season, Hannah recorded four top-20 results highlighted by a third place at the Women’s Aussie Open.

Jarryd Felton

"Jarryd

Making the trip from Perth, Jarryd Felton will tee it up in the Glenelg Blitz in the rare opportunity to play a tournament alongside his girlfriend; Hannah Green. A power couple of Australian golf, Jarryd is a proven winner having recorded two victories on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia. In 2018 he recorded three top-10 results including a 5th place at the Fiji International and a tied 9th at the Australian PGA Championship; both of which are co-sanctioned with the European Tour.

Michael Sim

""

A former PGA Tour player, Michael Sim will tee off his season in Adelaide at the Glenelg Blitz. After injuries placed a halt to his career, Sim has been on the comeback trail and won the 2017 Isuzu Queensland Open. His 2018 season was highlighted by a tied 8th result at the Northern Territory PGA Championship.

Simon Hawkes

"Simon

The last time Simon Hawkes was on the Bellarine Peninsula he changed his life by winning the Vic Open at the start of 2018. He returns to the region to play the Curlewis Blitz following a breakout season on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia which, aside from his victory, was highlighted by an additional two top-5 results.

Marcus Fraser

"Marcus

Another man whose name is synonymous with Australian golf is Marcus Fraser who has spent his career playing on the European Tour. Now looking to spend more time closer to home, the Blitz Curlewis is the perfect opportunity for sports fans to watch this Olympian in action. Despite scaling back his international playing schedule, Marcus still has plenty of game which was on full display in his fourth-place finish at the Aussie Open in November.

Michael Clayton

"Michael

With a playing career that spanned over two decades, Michael Clayton won on the European Tour and seven times on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia. Now a renowned golf course architect, with his work including the Curlewis layout and his thought-provoking journalism, the Curlewis Blitz is a rare opportunity for sports fans to watch another legend of Australian golf in action at the Curlewis Blitz.

Deyen Lawson

"Deyen

Having just secured his European Tour card for the 2019 season Deyen Lawson will return home to compete at the Curlewis Blitz where we will be a crowd favourite. Having completed his Traineeship at the course, Deyen will be the man to beat. A hugely talented player who is set to shine on the international stage, local fans will be able to see him in action before he tees off his 2019 schedule.

While these 10 highly credentialed players will enter the Blitz amongst the favourites there are plenty of other highly talented players in the field.

Also teeing it up will be 2017 Fiji International winner Jason Norris (Curlewis and Glenelg), Champions Tour player David McKenzie (Curlewis and Glenelg), Asian Tour player Terry Pilkadaris (Curlewis), PNG Open champion Daniel Gale (Curlewis and Glenelg) as well as defending Blitz Golf champion Antonio Murdaca.

Blitz Golf will see 40 players will be separated into two groups of 20 and start the tournament playing 9 holes in the first blitz. The top-12 players from each group then advance to a six-hole blitz before the field is reduced again. Just the top-6 players from each group will advance to the three hole blitz before the final blitz is played over just one hole between the remaining four players in a sudden-death playoff until just one remains and is crowned champion.

Each Blitz Golf event will be played for $40,000 and the event will count towards the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series Order of Merit for the first time.  There are also bonuses for round 1 leaders, event winners and the overall winner creating a prize pool of $100,000 across the two events.
