The reigning Fiji International champion carded eight birdies, including three in the final four holes, and heads into the second round three shots clear of Korea’s, Seungtaek Ho.
"It is a very good start to the tournament and I played nicely all day. I kept the head in a good space," Jeffress told OneAsia after his round.
"I hit a couple of good wedges in close when I was in trouble and that kept the momentum going. The only downside was three putting 11."
Back home, the native New South Welshman has had a pleasing season on the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am circuit securing three wins in two months, but Jeffress is keen to take more victories on the major Tours this year.
"The goal is to win. You can’t get too far ahead of yourself. It is a good start today but there is a long way to go."
"I did my goals for the end of the year and what I want to achieve and that involves winning again either on OneAsia or in Australia or on the European Tour."
Jeffress recorded the biggest victory of his career last year claiming the inaugural Fiji International; a victory that he believes has given him grater confidence this season.
With 26 Australasians in the field and the cut looming at 3-over, round two will be make or break with 15 in danger of missing the cut.
