Brett Rankin and Daniel McGraw have taken out a pro-am win on a course which has raised two of Australia’s most recognised and successful golfers.
Competing at the Breakas Beach Resort Virginia Pro-Am,
Rankin and McGraw claimed victory with rounds of 5-under 66 on the course which
is more commonly known as the "Course of Champions."
The Virginia Golf Club earned the lofty nick name after
it raised two Major Champions, with Greg Norman and Wayne Grady both gracing
the Club Championship honour boards.
The significance of the achievement wasn’t lost on
McGraw, with himself and Ranking taking out the victory on the same day Greg
Norman was in Sydney to launch the Greg Norman Medal.
"There is a lot of history at the Virginia Golf Club and
it’s a nice feeling to have added my name to part of that history," said
McGraw.
The Breakas Beach Resort Virginia Pro-Am also launched
the bmag Week of Golf.
Played acrossed the Virginia, City of Brisbane and
Indooroopilly Pro-Ams on the Sunshine Swing of the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am
Series, the Professional with the lowest aggregate score will receive a bonue
250,000 frequent flyer points.
"This was definitely the start I was looking for in the
bmag Week of Golf, as the 250,000 bonus would certainly assist with my travel
for the next 12months," added McGraw.
"It’s a great prize to win, and hopefully I can remain in
contention heading into the final round at Indooroopilly later in the week."
Brett Rankin was the winner of last year’s bmag Week of
Golf and has had a strong launch to his 2015 campaign with this joint win.
Finishing one shot out off the lead was former Virginia
Golf Club member and current Boyne Island Golf Club Head Professional Ben
Fletcher.
Rounding out the top-5 on the leaderboard were Daniel
Nisbet and Paul Hayden.
