From the white sand beaches of Fiji to the red desert of the Aussie outback, the PGA Tour of Australasia has arrived in Kalgoorlie for the TX Civil and Logistics WA PGA Championship.
The tournament is being played on the unique Kalgoorlie Golf Course which was designed by Graham Marsh, who has also completed the $10million redevelopment of RACV Royal Pines Resort for the Australian
PGA Championship.
Ranked 23 in Australia’s top-100 public access courses, the Kalgoorlie Golf Course offers up a stern test of golf mixed with a feast for the eyes. The lush green grasses are starkly juxtaposed against the red dirt which is waiting to catch any loose ball that escapes the fairway.
Since the WA PGA Championship has been played at the Kalgoorlie Golf Course the players have left their mark on the layout, setting the course record at 7-under 65.
Victorian Kristopher Mueck was the first to achieve the feat in 2012 with West Australian Jarryd Felton competing as an amateur and New Zealanders Ben Campbell and Peter Lee also shooting 7-under 65 during last year’s tournament.
A strong field has assembled this week to contest the title which is currently held by Victorian Ryan Lynch who will aim to go back-to-back.
Looking to stand in his way is European Tour star Brett Rumford, Aussie golf legend Peter Lonard, Web.com Tour player Ashley Hall and the next generation of Aussie golf, newly minted Professionals Jarryd Felton, Antonio Murdaca and Taylor Macdonald.
The TX Civil and Logistics WA PGA Championship tees off on Thursday 29th October with the winner crowned on Sunday 1stNovember.
Along with the winner’s share of the $120,000 prize purse the champion will be exempt onto the PGA Tour of Australasia until the end of 2017 and will receive Official World Golf Ranking points.
