Spieth names Scott the man to beat

World Number One Jordan Spieth has returned to Sydney where
he launched the start of a dream season.

World Number One Jordan Spieth has returned to Sydney where
he launched the start of a dream season.

"JordanSpieth was quick to confirm his Emirates Australian Open title
defence, his love of Australia playing a huge drawcard in his return.

"I love Australia; it’s
my favourite place I’ve ever travelled to, to play golf.
The city of Sydney is just one of the most beautiful cities in the world," said
Spieth.

"Great food and a great golf course, it was a no
brainer coming back."

From the scene of his first international victory, Spieth
spoke of the confidence his Emirates Australian Open win gave him, particularly
his final round performance.

"I had my game; I knew I could do it.  I was tied for the lead I think with a few
other guys entering the final round, with Scotty (Adam Scott) right there,
obviously a winner and a Major champion," added Spieth.

"I really just stayed very patient and played one of
the best rounds I’ve ever played in my life when I
really needed it."

The Aussie Open was the catalyst of his phenomenal season,
Spieth won the Masters Tournament, US Open as well as a further three PGA TOUR
tournaments.

"The Sunday round, I really felt like it was a very
special round that was going to do something for me," said Spieth of the course
record 8-under 63 he fired in the final round last year.

"That (win) was one where I held part of the lead and played
my best golf on Sunday in difficult conditions on a tough track, so that
carried with me, I could draw back on that week."

Back on site at The Australian, Spieth is determined to
engrave his name on the Stonehaven Cup for a second time.

"I feel like my game’s
on point, I wasn’t there in China, I was very rusty
and hadn’t practiced much," added Spieth.

"I’ve
really been grinded coming into this week, my coach Cameron is here and when he’s
here I feel very confident about what we’re
doing."

"We’ve
put in the right amount of work; we’ve almost worked like a Major Championship."

However Spieth is expecting a challenge this week, namely
from Adam Scott who he believes will be fired up for a win on home soil.

"I think he’s
(Scott’s) the guy to beat this week.
He had it last week and he just had an off day in the wind, I think on
Saturday," added Spieth.

"He comes into a place that he’s
obviously comfortable with, he’s played well, he’s
had good rounds and he’s fresh."

"He’s also probably got
a bit of a chip on his shoulder too off of last week, especially being back
home and everyone saying you haven’t won since the
Colonial in 2014."

"I guarantee you, he doesn’t
like hearing that and so he’s going to go about trying to
change that."

"I think he’s
the guy to beat this week and I’d like to give him a charge."
