Hot Scrivener rockets up leaderboard

A blistering final round 66 has seen Jason Scrivener vault up the leaderboard at the South African Open to finish just outside the top 10.

""The West Australian’s 6-under Sunday effort was bettered by only one player on the day and saw him move from outside the top 40 to T12.

The round was a welcome recovery after a disappointing 1-over 73 on Saturday which included a triple bogey six at the par-3 sixth.

It was a particularly good performance in a tournament which was disrupted each of the first three days by afternoon storms.

2016 was Scrivener’s second appearance at the South African Open after he made his debut as a European Tour member at the event last year.

That resulted in a T11 finish, also on the back of a score of 66, though in 2015 that came in the third round.

Scrivener has now made the cut in all three opening events of the 2016 season and is 40th in the Race to Dubai standings.

The tournament was won by 22-year-old Brandon Stone whose roller coaster final round included seven birdies and six bogies but was enough for a two shot victory.

Pre tournament favourite Branden Grace finished in a share of fourth five shots behind the winner.
