As day two of the Final Stage Qualifying School presented by Cobra Puma Golf wraps up, budding Professional Jack Wilson has continued to show that he’s the man to beat this week at Sandhurst Golf Club.
After a flawless opening round, Wilson followed up with a second round score of 3-under 69 to hang onto the outright lead on 11-under in cold and wet conditions.
"The rain made things tough, so it was good to be out a little bit later. Unfortunately, I didn’t capitalize on the front nine, but I managed to claw back," said Wilson after his round.
There is a lot on the line for players teeing it up this week and the possibilities of what a Tour Card holds is certainly playing on Wilsons mind.
"You just have to get back to the game plan that you’ve set. It’s hard to put it (the Card) out of your mind because it is so important. You find yourself wondering what’s next and this week is very important to try and dial that back."
"A couple of times I found myself, particularly after shooting a low round yesterday, it’s hard not to think about it. If I can just work on doing that over the next few days hopefully come the end of the week the higher you finish the better it is."
New South Welshman, Callan O’Reilly, is currently outright second and two shots back from Wilson after firing a 5-under 67, opening on the back nine with six consecutive birdies in a seven birdy round.
Victorian Chris Gaunt is a further shot back from O’Reilly after carding a 4-under 68 round for outright third.
Matthew Giles and Josh Younger are tied for for fourth after a 4-under 68 and a 2-under 70 respectively, the pair happy with their round which will see the pair head into round three on 7-under.
"I was pretty happy to have another solid round out there this morning, it was difficult with the weather, the rain was persistent for 12 holes which made the course play a fair bit different to yesterday," said Younger.
And life Wilson, Younger also knows what’s on the line for the field this week and what it would mean to gain a Card on the PGA Tour of Australasia.
"It’s still a long way to go in the tournament. I’ll just keep going out there and do what I’ve done for the last two days and hopefully it will be good enough."
"It would be nice to finish high up to be full exempt into all tournaments for the next 12 months, I think that’s everyone’s goal this week but unfortunately there are only a few that can do it, hopefully I’m one of them."
Round three of the Final Stage Qualifying School presented by Cobra Puma Golf will get underway at Sandhurst Golf Club tomorrow morning at 7:30am with a two tee start.
