Hend pushing for Race to Dubai top-10

Scott Hend will be looking to push his way into the top-10 on the European Tour’s Race to Dubai standings when he is one of three Australians to tee up in this week’s Spanish Open at Valderrama.

""Hend comes to Spain off a three week break and two tournaments removed from an emotional victory in Thailand, the 42-year-old refreshed and keen to continue recent good form.

With the tournament moving to the famed Valderrama course for the first time, it is an unknown quantity for much of the field but with his length and good putting so far this year Hend will like his chances this week.

Playing just his second year as a full member of the European Tour Hend would no doubt like to win on European soil, his two career victories to date both coming in Asia.

After winning the True Thailand Classic last month Hend indicated he wanted to go on with the job and get himself into the top-50 in the world and the associated benefits that come with it.

He has proved in a long career he has the tools to compete at that level but knows he needs to improve his consistency if he is to get there.

He is joined in the field this week by veteran Richard Green and South Australia’s Wade Ormsby, both of whom need a lift in form.

Green has played just three events for the year so far, his T6 at the Australian PGA Championship on the Gold Coast in December his only made cut to date.

Poor form in both Perth and Thailand saw him miss the weekend in both those events and he will be looking to turn things around at the Valderrama course this week.

Wade Ormsby has played more events than Green but his form has been less than his best to this point in the season.

A T15 at the ISPS Handa Perth International has been his best so far with two missed cuts mixed in in among seven starts.

Playing a new venue might be just the tonic for Ormsby’s game as he tries to lift from 90th on the Race to Dubai standings

New Zealand’s Ryan Fox will also play this week as he tries to accrue enough Race to Dubai points to earn Tour membership after narrowly missing out via both the Challenge Tour Order of Merit last year as well as the Q-School.
