For a player who lifts for the biggest tournaments
Leishman’s form in the US Open is surprisingly poor.

Three missed cuts in four starts is not what you’d expect
from a world top-40 player and while there are no guarantees in golf, Leishman
is better than that and it would be a surprise if he didn’t improve that record
this year.

The laid back Victorian has been going quietly about his
business on the PGA TOUR in 2016 and a T11 last start at The Memorial was an
ideal warm-up for Oakmont.

Leishman’s strokes gained figures are in the positive in
every department but with just one top-10 on his resume to date, he is due to
put everything together over four days soon.

Leishman has the ideal demeanour for the most demanding
mental test the players face all year and the experience of being in the
play-off at last year’s Open Championship will hold him in good stead.

If he can figure out the puzzle that is Oakmont early in the
week, Leishman is a chance to be a genuine contender come Sunday.
