Rhein Gibson has continued his
extraordinary 2016 return to form, the Lismore native posting two rounds of
8-under 62 on his way to a second Web.com Tour
runner-up finish in three weeks.

"RheinGibson, who has struggled in his
rookie season on the PGA TOUR, has been in his comfort zone in recent weeks
with a play-off loss and now a runner-up in his last two appearances on the
secondary Tour.

In a low scoring week, Gibson’s
opening 62 was overshadowed by Germany’s Stephan Jaeger who shot a record
setting 58 to take the lead.

With his aggressive style of play
ideally suited to the conditions at TPC Stonebrae in California, Gibson reeled
off 25 birdies and two eagles on his way to a tournament total of 23-under-par.

Rounds of 62-66-67-62 were
impressive though still a distant seven shots behind winner Jaegar who backed
up his 58 with 65-64-63.

Gibson was one of six Australians to
tee up in the Ellie Mae Classic, Bryden Macpherson and Brett Drewitt also
making the cut.

Macpherson broke a run of six
straight cuts with his T36 performance and while still outside the top-100 on
the money list can now take some confidence in to the final events of the
season.

For Drewitt it was an indifferent
week, his T49 finish not enough to advance him up the money list though he
remains the only Australian aside from Gibson to be inside the top-50.

Steve Allan, Mathew Goggin and Peter Lonard all failed
to make the cut.
