The New Zealand team were on track for a special day at the
ISPS HANDA World Cup of Golf until some late mistakes proved costly.
Ryan Fox and Danny Lee were lighting up the golf course on
the back-9 and were 3-under after 13 holes.
However a couple of wayward shots from Fox saw the Kiwi pair
finish the day at even par and tied 8th on 5-under the card.
"We played really well for probably 13 holes and I had a
couple of wayward tee shots coming home and it cost us three shots
unfortunately," said Fox.
"Danny played some great golf out there and for the most
part we combined pretty well."
While Fox may have been feeling uneasy about his finish, Lee
was happy with the team performance on the second day.
"I’m not disappointed at all.
We were planning on losing shots playing in this game today," said Lee.
"We had a pretty good matchup in the first round so anything below
even par is pretty good. But we definitely
didn’t lose any shots out there, so very happy with that.
"I think we’re playing really, really good right now and anything
could happen tomorrow.
"Ryan’s playing well, I’m playing very well right now, so we’re
going to make some birdies tomorrow out there."
Just like many teams in the field the New Zealanders are
hoping to go low in the final round and move their way up the leaderboard which
is headed by Team Denmark on 14-under the card.
"He’s the one that hits them straight, so he hits first and
then I can just lash at everything pretty much," explained Fox of their Sunday
strategy.
"Hopefully I can chip in on a few holes like I did on Friday
and get some putts to go in. There is a
good score out here, especially if the conditions are like today."
