Dodt leads strong Aussie Hong Kong charge

A rejuvenated Andrew Dodt will be keen to
continue his good form from RACV Royal Pines Resort when he tees up at this
week’s UBS Hong Kong Open.

""54-hole leader at the Australian PGA
Championship, Dodt was pleased with his week’s work on the Gold Coast despite
being run down in the final round by red hot American Harold Varner III.

A 3-under Sunday effort was more than
credible and while he would rather have won than finish runner-up, Dodt walked
away not only proud of his play but with a new found confidence in his game.

"I’m pretty proud of the way I handled
myself out there," Dodt said of his Sunday effort.

"I would’ve taken a bogey-free 69 at the
start of the day but it wasn’t good enough in the end."

Dodt is one of 11 Australians teeing up in
this week’s Asian and European Tour co-sanctioned final event of the 2016
calendar year.

Fellow European Tour members Scott Hend,
Marcus Fraser, Wade Ormsby and Jason Scrivener will also be at Fanling Golf
Club alongside Brett Rumford, who secured his start thanks to a top-5 finish at
the Australian PGA Championship and Asian Tour regulars Sam Brazel, Terry
Pilkadaris, Adam Groom and Kalem Richardson.

Hend launched his European Tour career at
this event when he won in 2014 and after his most successful year in the
Professional ranks in 2016 would love to lift the trophy again.

But there are others among the Australians with
high stakes to play for, Brett Rumford, Scott Barr and Kalem Richardson among
them.

Rumford lost his full European playing
rights for 2017 but brings some confidence to Hong Kong after a brilliant final
round at RACV Royal Pines Resort.

Rumford’s Sunday 67 was one of the best
scores of the day and vaulted him to outright fifth on the leaderboard, encouraging
signs as he tries to win back full status.

Also needing a high finish this week are
Asian Tour regulars Scott Barr and Kalem Richardson, both of whom are hovering
near the top-60 cut off for keeping their cards for 2017.

Barr sits in 65th position while Richardson
has slipped to 72nd and both will be anxious to make the cut and give
themselves a chance to maintain rights for next season.
