Peter Fowler
occupied his familiar position as top Australian on the European Senior Tour
though a T25 finish at the season ending Tour Championship was far from his
best.
Fowler and
Mike Harwood were the only two Australians to qualify for the elite 48-man
field but neither produced their best golf in Mauritius, Harwood two shots and
10 places on the leaderboard behind his New South Wales counterpart.
An
uncharacteristically poor round on day two sealed Fowler’s fate, his Saturday
76 including two back nine double bogeys.
While he
hit back with one of the best scores of the day in the final round he started
too far back for his 4-under 68 to make any inroads on eventual winner Barry
Lane.
For Harwood
the week started well enough with a 2-under par 70 but he couldn’t maintain the
momentum and finished with scores of 72-75 for a 1-over par total.
