Sam Brazel has posted his best European Tour finish since winning December’s Hong Kong Open with a top 15 result at the Maybank Championship in Malaysia.
Brazel closed with a final round 69 at the Saujana Country Club to be T12 at 9-under for the week and pick up a cheque for €40,236.
With eight tournaments of the 2017 season now complete, Brazel sits sixth on the season long Race to Dubai standings.
The 38-year-old was the leading Australian in the field moving 11 places up the standings with his final round.
Scott Hend was the biggest mover among the Australians Sunday posting one of the best scores of the day, a 5-under 67.
The Queenslander mixed seven birdies with two bogeys in a round that was somewhat reminiscent of an up and down week.
After opening with 74 Hend turned things around with a 66 Friday before again struggling Saturday with a 75.
He was next best of the Australians behind Brazel, Andrew Dodt (T41) and Todd Sinnott (T64) the last of the Australians to make the cut.
Sinnott, winner of the Asian Tour’s Myanmar Open two weeks ago, was on track for a mid field finish before a disappointing final round 76.
It was a bizarre final round for the big hitting Victorian which included three double bogeys and an eagle as he dropped 20 places down the leaderboard.
Defending champion Marcus Fraser, amateur Curtis Luck, Terry Pilkadaris and Nathan Holman all missed the weekend’s play.
