Fox flies flag alone

New Zealand’s Ryan Fox will fly the Australasian flag alone at this week’s European Tour event in South Africa.

""Fox is the only player from this part of the world to make the journey to South Africa having had a close call at last week’s ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth event at Lake Karrinyup.

The long hitting European Tour rookie lost out in a playoff to advance to the matchplay stage of the tournament though showed some good form over the opening three days.

Scores of 69-68-71 over the tricky West Australian layout suggest his game is in good shape and he will be hoping to improve on a missed cut at this event last year.

Several Australians are on the alternates list for the tournament at the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club but it seems unlikely any will earn a start.

Nick Cullen is the highest on the list but has more than 10 players ahead of him while Ben Eccles, Ryan McCarthy and Terry Pilkadaris are even further down the priority standings.
