There are 15 spots available across the Gailes Links, Hillside, Notts Hollinwell, Royal Cinque Ports and Woburn layouts with 13 Australian’s and one New Zealander featuring across all five courses, the top three golfers at each event advance to The Open.
Hillside Golf Club, a course Greg Norman has described as having “the best back-9 in Britain” will have the largest representation with Ben Eccles, Richard Green, Jack Munro, Paul Archbold and New Zealand’s Gareth Paddison all teeing it up.
Eccles’ is the form player in the field coming off some solid results on the Challenge Tour including a fifth place finish in the Andalucía Costa del Sol Match Play event.
Gailes Links, managed by Glasgow Golf Club will feature three Australian’s in Jordan Zunic, Daniel Fox and Ryan McCarthy, the trio are acclimatised to the European conditions having all played on the Challenge Tour this season.
Zunic has enjoyed the most success on the secondary Tour, he too has a top-5 finish next his name in 2017.
Dimitrios Papadatos, a two time winner on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia this year will play alongside amateurs Ben Ferguson and Haydn Barron who made the final qualifying stage via The Open Regional Qualifying Series events at Little Aston where Barron was the top performer.
Jarryd Felton and Matthew Giles will tackle the Woburn layout while Nick Cullen is the sole Australian at Royal Cinque Ports.
There is a strong contingent of Australian’s already confirmed for The Open with Ash Hall, Marc Leishman, Adam Bland, Aaron Baddeley, Scott Hend, Adam Scott and Jason Day returning while Cameron Smith and Matthew Griffin make their debut at the prestigious tournament, Michael Hendry of New Zealand also makes his debut in the Major.
