Veteran Steve Allan will be drawing on good memories at this week’s Sentinel Open as he fights to keep his Web.com Tour career alive in Tennessee.
The 43-year-old former Australian Open winner has played six full seasons on the secondary Tour since 2003, five of those in the last six seasons.
But after struggling for much of 2017 he finds himself outside the top 100 money earners who automatically keep status for next season and in need of a big finish to his year.
Only five events remain on the schedule after this week, Allan hoping to replicate his 2015 performance at Fox Den Country Club when he finished T4.
The likeable Victorian is one of six Australians in the field this week, Robert Allenby, Jamie Arnold, Rhein Gibson, Mark Hensby and Michael Sim also making the journey.
Allenby and Hensby are also outside the top 100 heading to the final stretch of the season while Arnold and Gibson will still hold aspirations of making the top 25 and earning PGA TOUR status for next season.
Arnold is the best performed of the Australians this year and sits 51st in earnings while Gibson has been at less than his best much of the year but still holds down 68th position.
Michael Sim is making his fifth start of the year despite having minimal status on the Tour, the 32-year-old hoping to improve on a T40 finish at the recent Ellie Mae Classic in California.
Sim showed glimpses of his best in that tournament with a third round 63 but with limited playing opportunities has struggled to consistently play his best this year.
