Boyce and Dagan to face off in Pampling Plate final

Defending champion Jacob Boyce and Maroochy Rivers Dean Dagan will battle out tomorrow for the 2017 Pampling Plate.

Defending champion Jacob Boyce and Maroochy Rivers Dean Dagan will battle out tomorrow for the 2017 Pampling Plate.

""Boyce was once again at his formidable best throughout the day, accounting for Hayden Gomez in his quarter final this morning 2 &1 and Tom Major 3 & 2 on his way to reaching tomorrow’s final.

His afternoon match was much closer than what the score line showed, with Major coming out of the blocks early to be 1 up through five holes.

“Tom played really well early and if it wasn’t for a three putt at the fourth, he could have been even further ahead,” said Boyce.

“Thankfully things did turn around midway through the match, and after a few loose shots late in the day it’s to have managed to get the win and make my second consecutive final.

“The goal at the start of the week was to get deep into the match play and to be in with a chance to hoist the Pampling Plate for a second consecutive year tomorrow is exciting.”

It was a different story for Dagan with both his quarter final and semi final going done to the wire, with each match going to the 20th hole.

“There was certainly luck on my side this morning with managing to get through to the semi final. Unfortunately for Charles (Wright), he three putted the first extra hole from 15 feet to keep the door open. On the next, I holed my 15 foot birdie putt to knock him out of the championship. I guess that’s golf,” said Dagan.

“Unfortunately it wasn’t any easier this afternoon and after a couple of errors late in the match, I again thought I was done. Thankfully I hung in there and was able to get the job done at 20th.

“I guess making the final was meant to be after how both matches played out today. Hopefully I can make the most of my opportunity in tomorrow’s final.”

With the Pampling Plate one of the biggest events that the Trainees compete in each year tomorrow’s final is shaping as another showcase battle.

Tomorrow’s 36 hole final which tees off tomorrow morning at 7:00am will be another test of stamina for the two trainees, who have played 36 holes the past three days. The two finalists will be joined by Tom Major and Angus Porter who were defeated in today’s semi’s in a afternoon consolation playoff for third and fourth.
