Quayle making headway

Impressive Queensland rookie Professional Anthony Quayle has posted his first international top-10 result sharing top Australian honours at the Indonesian Open at the weekend.

Impressive Queensland rookie Professional Anthony Quayle has posted his first international top-10 result sharing top Australian honours at the Indonesian Open at the weekend.

""Quayle and Victorian Andrew Martin both finished 12-under for the week at the Pondok Indah golf course to share eighth place and earn US$6,185 each.

23-year-old Quayle turned Professional in January this year and after finishing 31st at the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia Qualifying School had limited playing opportunities.

But the Sanctuary Cove based golfer has earned his place in the game the hard way and after elevating his status on the local Tour through the first half of the year has now produced his best result outside Australia.

Quayle and Martin were three ahead of Australia’s next best, Daniel Fox, while Jake Higginbottom produced another solid week to maintain his place in the top-60 on the Order of Merit.

The former New Zealand Open champion moved 15 places up the leaderboard with a final round 68 to finish T21, his third made cut and third sub-70 score in his last three tournaments.

Michael finished at the same mark as Higginbottom, the last of the Australians inside the top-30.

Terry Pilkadaris was next best at T45 while Stephen Leaney, who led after the opening round, had three disappointing days to finish T49 alongside fellow veteran Scott Barr.

New Zealand’s Frazer Wilkin (T54) and Sydney’s Nathan Park (T61) were the last of the Down Under contingent to make the cut, 10 others failing to make the weekend.

New Zealanders Campbell Rawson and Gareth Paddison were among that number as were Australians Dale Williamson, Marcus Both, Jack Wilson, Adam Blyth, Lindsay Wilson, Daniel Nisbet, Tom Power Horan, and David Gleeson.
