Luke Hickman recorded the only bogey free round of the day to take his second win of the season at the Gorilla Ladders Box Hill Pro-Am today.

A brisk southerly breeze made scoring extremely difficult for the morning field at the annual Gorilla Ladders Box Hill Pro-Am.

While the field was full of Australian golf stars including Ashley Hall, Rory Bourke and Andrew Martin as well as former sporting star Rodney Hogg and David King ensuring plenty of highlights at Box Hill.

Rossdale Teaching Professional David Williams made a classy return to the Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series.  Starting his round on the 14^th he bogeyed the short par-3 17^th however he immediately hit back with an eagle on the par-5 18^th.  Birdies on the 1^st, 7^th and 10^th holes saw Willaims 4-under the card with just three holes to play. Unfortunately costly bogeys on the 11^th and 12^th saw him finish his round on 2-under 69.

The best round of the morning field went to Peter Poposki.  Starting his round of the 7^th he traded an opening birdie with a bogey on the next.  Poposki soon found his rhythm with four more birdies on the back-9 and only one blemish to make the turn for home 3-under the card and tied with Williams.  He bogeyed the par-4 3^rd but immediately birdied the long par-3 4^th to stay at 3-under and take the clubhouse lead.

The overcast and cloudy conditions of the morning gave way to the bright sunshine for the afternoon players.  Tour veterans Euan Walters and Scott Laycock took up the early running with Walters making the turn at 2-under the card and Laycock 4-under through his first eight holes. When a squall swept through Box Hill Walters faulted slightly giving back his gains and more to eventually finish at 6-over 77.

Kristopher Mueck was the next to challenge Laycock when he got it to 2-under the card. However a soft bogey on the drivable 1^st hole and again on the 2^nd saw Mueck battling to stay in touch.  Mueck managed to two late birdies to make it back to 2-under and tied with Williams and eventually Laycock who’s round was anything but his normal consistency with five birdies and three bogeys including one late in his round to finish on 69.

However it was Luke Hickman who handled the blustery conditions the best.  Carding a bogey free 4-under 67 to take out the title.

Hickman had traded in his clubs for a cement mixers and trowels whilst working a brick-layer to take a break from golf to refresh his game.

“I been back on the tools, brick laying with one of my good mates, I’m really enjoying it and I’ve got a good balance between golf and work now which is making life better,” said Hickman.

Hickman was the only player in the field to be bogeys free which was a mean feat considering the high breezy conditions and the tight course layout at Box Hill.

“I hit the ball really straight and when I was in trouble I was able to pitch it close and save par,” added Hickman,

“I pitched and putted really well which is what you have to do around these courses”

The Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am series now moves north for the New South Wales swing before returning to Victoria in December to finish the season over $70,000 up for offer in 10 days that features The Commercial Club Pro-Am in Albury and The Greater Shepparton Masters.  These events are certain to attract the big fields as players look to secure a higher place on the National Pro-Am Order of Merit.
