Zunic holds on for maiden pro-am victory

Jordan Zunic’s 1-under 71 final round proved to be enough to hold off a fast finishing Matthew Giles to win the Ron Crouch Transport Wagga Wagga Country Club Pro-Am.

Jordan Zunic’s 1-under 71 final round proved to be enough to hold off a fast finishing Matthew Giles to win the Ron Crouch Transport Wagga Wagga Country Club Pro-Am.

""Zunic, who lead the field by two shots seemed to have control of the event most of the day. A bogey on the 16th after Zunic’s ball got stuck up a tree made things more interesting but he maintained his composure to close out the event with two good pars on the 17th and 18th .

Even though Zunic is a two time winner on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia he had never played in a pro-am.

“I haven’t played in a pro-am before but I have been extremely impressed over the last two days with the show the Wagga Wagga Country Club has put on,” Zunic said.

“The course was fantastic and the crowds following us made it feel more like a tour event than a pro-am.”

Runner up Matthew Giles made three birdies late in the round but it would not be enough. His 4-under 140 total would see him finish just one shot behind Zunic.

Matthew Stieger and Alex Edge produced the low rounds for the tournament with 5-under 67’s in the final round. Matthew finished 3rd on 3-under 141 and Alex finished 4th on 2-under 142.

A group of five players took a share of 5th with 1-under 143 Leigh McKechnie, Taylor Cooper, Sam Daley, Austin Bautista and Andrew Campbell.

The Ron Crouch Wagga Wagga Country Club Pro-Am has won the Country Tournament of the Year on several occasions.

“Every year the Wagga Wagga Country Club deliver a quality event and this year they’ve just raised the bar even higher,” said PGA NSW/ACT Tournament Coordinator Peter Welden.

The series heads to the ACT for a week of Pro-Ams starting with Murrumbidgee on Saturday 1st of April.
