In what is likely to be the most difficult conditions any tour will face all year the Sunday to Wednesday Web.com Tour event in the Bahamas has concluded with just one player in red figures and three golfers posting at least one round in the 90’s.

The Greg Norman designed Sandals Emerald Bay course was battered all week at the Great Exuma Classic, strong winds seeing scores balloon to record highs and the 36-hole cut made at an astonishing 11-over-par.

Winner Kyle Thompson posted a final round of 2-under-par 70 to be 2-under for the week and win by two shots, two players T2 at even par while the next best score was 3-over.

The carnage saw three of the five Australians in the field miss the cut with tournament invitee Jake Younan eventually taking top honours at 14-over-par and T39, Rhein Gibson four shots further back and T58.

Conditions were so difficult that two year veteran of the Tour, Greg Eason failed to break 90 in either of his first two rounds while suffering the added humiliation of losing 32 golf balls along the way.

There were just eight scores in the 60’s recorded all week in an event which, given the difficulty of conditions, has done little to shed light on early season form.

Steve Allan and Jamie Arnold both missed the cut by a single shot while Robert Allenby was two outside the mark after 36 holes.

The Sunday to Wednesday concept will be trialled again in two weeks’ time, again in the Bahamas, and players will no doubt be hoping for somewhat more sensible weather when the Great Abaco Open tees off on January 22.
