Wood off to great China start

Queensland’s Christopher Wood has got his PGA Tour China career off to an excellent start with a top-10 finish in his first tournament.

Queensland’s Christopher Wood has got his PGA Tour China career off to an excellent start with a top-10 finish in his first tournament.

Wood earned his card for the tour at the qualifying tournament in January and will be pleased with his play at the St Andrews Henan Open at the weekend where he finished T8.""

Wood started the final round in outright sixth and fired a 2-over 74 on a difficult day for scoring.

Only three players finished under par for the 72 holes, Wood one of four players to be at 3-over for the week.

Max McCardle also finished at that mark, his second top-10 finish on the PGA Tour China in his second year competing there.

McCardle played seven events last year and made the cut in all seven, a fourth place result his best on his way to a 27th placed finish on the year end Order of Merit.

Taylor Cooper and Jake Higginbottom, also playing their rookie seasons in China, were next best of the Australians at T13 and T19 respectively.

David McKenzie (T26), Gavin Flint and Jake Younan (T40), Peter Martin (T54), Rohan Blizard (T61) and Alex Hawley and Chris Brown (T65) were the other Australians to make the cut.

Ray Beaufils, Daniel Nisbet, James Gibellini, David Lutterus, Michael Willis, Mitch Davis and Jake Stirling all missed the weekend’s play.
