The Victorian Senior Open kicked off on Wednesday at Black Bull Golf Course in Yarrawonga.
The first round of the 54-hole tournament saw 61 Senior Professionals and nine low amateurs competing for the newly established Peter Thomson Trophy.
The recently opened Peter Thomson design golf course was immaculately presented but blustery conditions with occasional showers tested the field which included Mike Harwood and Terry Price.
The layout which includes the Bull Ring, Black Bulls equivalent to Augusta’s Amen Corner, received high praise from all Professionals.
Head Professional Glenn McCully, who runs the course with his two sons James and Phil, carded a solid 3-over 75 to keep him in touch with two rounds to play.
The in form Mike Harwood continued his outstanding run with an even round 72, while tour rookie John Onions had 4-under through nine but four bogies coming home saw him join Harwood on even par.
The day ended with seven players tied on 72 play resumes at 8am today at Yarrawonga’s Murray Golf Course.
