Adam Scott set a blistering pace at Huntingdale this morning
to take the early lead at the UNIQLO Masters.
Playing in the morning field Scott made the most of the
perfect scoring conditions to fire a bogey free 7-under 64.
For much of the day it looked like no one would come close
to Scott’s lead until WA Open champion Daniel Fox charged home in the afternoon
field.
Fox, who has been in red hot form, finished his round with five
straight birdies on the back-9 at Huntingdale for a first round 6-under 65.
Peter Wilson, who has faced come health issues this year,
has recovered well to fire a first round 4-under 67 to be tied third with
Matthew Stieger and Mathew Goggin.
Sitting a shot further back is Alistair Presnell and Andrew
Evans who pre-qualified for the UNIQLO Masters on Monday.
A group of 10 players, including John Senden and US Amateur
Champion Bryson DeChambeau round out the top-10 on 2-under the card.
The second round of the UNIQLO Masters tees off at

Key Quotes:
Adam Scott, 7-under
64, 1st
"I
don’t think I challenged the course very much.
But we had really nice conditions to play this morning. There was no wind, and weighing everything
up, there was no need to challenge it."
"The
greens were still soft and it was right there for the taking this morning."
"I
think you always walk off feeling better, no matter who you are, if you’re made
a few putts."
Daniel Fox, 6-under
65, 2nd
"Honestly, I’ve been working hard
for a few years. Just never really
allowed myself to play like this I guess.
I’ve always been very sort of overawed by some of the bigger events for
a start. So playing here this week, so
far, I’m very happy with."
"Putting is the strength of my
game. I’ve been fortunate enough to not
completely rely on it. I’ve been hitting
the ball well, especially the last three weeks.
I’m not finding myself having to grind as much on the golf course to
shoot good numbers. Not that it’s easy,
but I seem to be making good decisions and taking good opportunities when they
come and happy to make pars otherwise."
Peter Wilson, 4-under 67, 3rd
"Got
in nice and early before the wind switched on us. We were on 18 actually when it switched. 18 was a bit longer but it was good."
"I’ve
been playing in Japan this year.
But
unfortunately,
I got
pretty sick over there this year and lost my status, but got through the Q‑School
last week. Finished second and now I go
for the finals next week."
