Triple treat for Marchesani

Victorian James Marchesani has burst onto the Australian golf scene by completing a triple crown of his own.

Victorian James Marchesani has burst onto the Australian golf scene by completing a triple crown of his own.

"JamesThe Rookie Professional, who made the switch to the paid ranks in November, has pre-qualified for the BetEasy Masters, Emirates Australian Open and today the Australian PGA Championship.

It is an impressive feat with the 24-year-old snaring one of just three positions into the Australian PGA Championship on offer to the 59 hopefuls teeing it up at Palm Meadows.

"I am pretty happy, coming back from the US with no status to get myself into Australia’s biggest three events," said Marchesani who finished T56 in Sydney and 65th in Melbourne.

"It’s been a lot of fun, I didn’t play as well as I would have liked but you can’t always have that with golf, unfortunately."

"This week is going to be fun and hopefully I can play a little better."

The talented Professional is relatively unknown in Australia having spent his amateur career playing in the US for Oklahoma City University.

"I just graduated college in the US, I spent four years over there playing for Oaklahoma City," added the Marketing graduate who also won the Jack Nicklaus Award.

"It was pretty special; Jack’s arguably the greatest of all time, to spend a couple of hours with him and just shake his hand was a pretty cool experience."

"To pick his brain about how he went about certain things in golf was pretty cool too."

Enjoying his time competing on the PGA Tour of Australasia Marchesani has played alongside the likes of Jarrod Lyle, David McKenzie and fellow Rookie Professional Geoff Drakeford.

"Seeing the guys like Rory last week in the locker room is pretty cool," added Marchesani.

"You watch them on TV and we all think hopefully we are out there playing with them so that has been fun.  I have just been trying to take it all in as I go."

"I was fortunate enough to play with Jarrod Lyle which was a lot of fun, it was good to watch his game and learn from him."

"His short game is phenomenal so to pick those things up from players and see how they go about certain things is great."

With today’s practice round washed out due to storms Marchesani is yet to play the Royal Pines layout but is hoping his long hitting abilities continue to serve him well.

"I can hit it pretty long off the tee, which has been a strength and helped me through these three qualifiers," added Marchesani.

"If I can get the driver going and the putter heats up then I should be in for a good week."

"But the aim is just to play golf the way I know how too. Hopefully it’s good enough to shoot some low numbers."

Looking towards 2015 Marchesani plans on attending PGA Tour of Australasia Qualifying School next week at Noosa.

"I will go to Q-School here and that is as far as I have planned. Hopefully I can do my thing, play well and go from there."
