Trio share honours in Japan

Brendan Jones, Scott Strange and Scott Barr shared top Australian honours at the Japan Tour and Asian Tour co-sanctioned Golf Diamond Cup this week, all notching even par totals to be inside the top-20.

"BrendanStrange, who started the week in
scintillating fashion with an opening round 6-under-64 to take the lead,
endured what can only be described as a mixed bag over the four days with two
rounds of 4-over-74 offsetting some fine play in his other rounds of 64 and 68.

Strange has been in good form in Japan in
2015 missing just two cuts in 12 starts and posting a runner-up and a T4 to sit
29th on the money list.

He looked well on his way to another high
finish this week after both his first and third rounds but was ultimately let
down by too many mistakes.

A cold putter in the final round
contributed to his demise, two three putts and a total of 33 strokes with the
flat stick too many to contend at this level.

Jones’ week was almost the polar opposite,
the Canberran steady in posting rounds of 72-69-72-67 for his even par total.

It’s been a difficult 2015 for Jones whose
13 Tour titles make him Australia’s most successful Japan Tour player.

He has just one top-10 for the year but
will be encouraged by some solid play this week as the biggest events on the
Japan Tour schedule are just around the corner.

Like Jones, Scott Barr relied on steady
play for his even par finish, rounds of 70-71-68-71 giving him his best finish
in the Asian/Japan Tour co-sanctioned event in five appearances.

Amateur Lucas Herbert impressed with his
play, finishing just one behind the trio of seasoned Professionals at 1-over
and T27.

The 19-year-old had the ideal warm-up for
next week’s Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship firing rounds of 71-69-70-71.

It was a disappointing week for the
remainder of the Australasian contingent, Adam Bland (T60) and Sam Brazel (T63)
the only others to make the cut.
