PGA Great Britain and Ireland competitor Jack Harrison and New South Wales competitor Michael Smyth take a strong hold on top of the leaderboard after the second day of play at the PGA National Futures Championships. Harris and Smyth lead the field at 5 under par 139, heading in to the third round.
There was plenty of opportunity for scoring which was seen with a notable number of Trainees carding eagles during their rounds. However Head Professional David Wallis commented on the "softer conditions" which proved challenging for some Trainees on the putting green- particularly on the notorious 5th and 10th holes.
Queenslander Daniel Morgan from Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club had an impressive round, including five birdies and one bogey finishing four under par 68.
51 competitors have made the cut heading into the final round including five female Trainees. Anna Stanton from Palmer Colonial Golf Course in Queensland has snuck into the top 10 after a quality round today of one under par 71. In her current form she may just have what it takes to be amongst the lead group heading into final day.
The international competitors have their eye on the prize with all three making the cut. Round three is traditionally known as moving day and tomorrow should prove no exception with many Trainees positioned well to make gains on the leaders. With similar conditions forecast for tomorrow, today has highlighted that opportunity is still ripe.
