59 Trainee Professionals made the cut yesterday and teed it up today for round three of the Coca Cola Rich River Trainee Classic.
Spectators were eager to see how the Trainee Professionals would tackle today’s course with several of them still licking their wounds after tough conditions in the wind yesterday.
With a stiff breeze prevailing and several challenging pin placements, today certainly proved an opportunity to sort the wheat from the chaff and caused a shake up on the leaderboard heading into the final round.
Playing in his first four round event, first year Trainee William Flitcroft from Manly Golf Club (NSW) produced a dazzling round of five birdies and one bogeys, to card 4-under 68 and see him make significant gains on the overnight leaders.
Adam Porker, Luke Farry and Brody Martin each faced their own challenges with scoring early in their rounds, Porker and Farry struggled to recover both finishing 3-over 77, whilst Martin was able to claw his way back with a birdie on the challenging 13th hole to finish 1-under 71.
Flitcroft’s round sees him move into second position at 5-under par after 54 holes and only one shot off the lead. Martin retains his position on top of the leaderboard heading into the final round.
Whilst it appears to be a two horse race between Martin and Flitcroft, spectators can’t discount several challengers including local boy Adam Burdett.
Burdett has shown good form over the last three days and if he can manage to string together a solid final round he could be a force to be reckoned with.
The morning field will be teeing off at 7:00am on the East Course.
