Bonjour mon
ami’s, welcome to this week’s Tour Insider from the picturesque New Caledonia.
Whilst majority of the putting green chat has been based around how many
baguettes we will consume, I’ve kept my focus on the golf and who you should be
keeping an eye out for at this week’s South Pacific Open Championship starting
on Wednesday.

Daniel Fox
Daniel comes to the South Pacific off what
would appear to be a bit of a cold patch for the former WA Open Champion. Whilst
off the radar for most punters, make no mistake, this sandgroper has been
hitting the gym and practice fairways. Not to mention acclimatising to New
Caledonia in his nicknamed home spa "The Pleasure Tub". It might be a little
difficult to avoid the carbs this week with the fresh baguettes on offer, but
if Foxy can avoid the bogeys he will be well in contention come the final
rounds.

Callan O’Reilly
This New South Welshman is looking to
channel some of his beloved Liverpool’s recent success in the EPL. Cal’s last
trip to Tina Golf Club saw him finish a respectable T13, that was without his
golf clubs and contact lenses which were lost in transit from Europe. I suspect
he’ll be seeing the course a little better this year and is coming off some
recent success in the PGA Pro-Am Series in Australia. Callan is no stranger to
winning in the Pacific following his success in Tahiti last year, maybe it will
be the French influence again which will see him lifting the trophy.
#3 Kristopher
Mueck
This guy’s ability is seriously impressive.
He is maturing more and more as a Professional each year which was evident when
he finished inside the top-10 in Morocco on the European Tour. Mueck has had
three top-10 finishes on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia already this
season and has traditionally enjoyed the local culture here in New Caledonia. A
tragic Sydney Swans supporter, Mueck’s only downfall may be the outcome of the
preliminary final on Friday night before the final round tees off on Saturday.

Deyen Lawson
I saw Deyen come through Tour School a
number of years back and struggle to find his feet on the Tour. After consecutive
missed cuts, he just didn’t seem up to it, so he embarked on a three year PGA Traineeship
at Curlewis Golf Club, and wow did he reap the rewards! Deyen not only
dominated the Trainee tournaments, he came out with a wealth of knowledge which
he has successfully applied to his own golf game. Combine a current 9th
position on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit with four
wins from his last five starts on the PGA Pro-Am Series and you have a serious
contender for this week’s South Pacific Open Championship.

Matthew Guyatt
Matt has a formidable record here at Tina
Golf Club and it’s no real surprise given he sees Noumea as a ‘home away from
home’. Returning each year since 2012, Guyatt has recorded three top-15
finishes including a 4th place finish last year. A true family man,
he has spent the majority of his time in and around the Brisbane area this year
working on his game. You can forgive his last start at the traditionally difficult
Korean Open and whilst his French hasn’t really improved over the years, Guyatt
will no doubt let his clubs do the talking at this week’s South Pacific Open
Championship.
