Pelican Waters proved to be a stern test for the Legends Professionals in today’s second round of the Sunshine Coast Masters, and it
would be Lucien Tinkler seizing the lead heading into the final day.
The dry, northerly winds picking up throughout the day, and even a small
bushfire between the 16th green and 17th couldn’t prevent
Tinkler taking the lead, and with his second round even par 72, Tinkler sits
atop the leaderboard at 4-under par, one shot ahead of Steve Conran.
Tinkler was somewhat surprised when he was informed that he was leading
the Sunshine Coast Masters heading into tomorrow’s final round.
"It is great to find myself in this position with only one round to go,
though I certainly didn’t expect it when I handed my card in," remarked
Tinkler.
"Pelican Waters is a great test of golf, which was made even more
difficult today with the swirling winds. Club selection was of a premium to
shoot a good score today.
"I played great and although I didn’t quite finish the round off how I
would have liked, I can’t complain about where I stand in the grand scheme of
things."
Steve Conran has continued on his solid form, after claiming the
Australian Legends Tour Championship in Byron Bay over the weekend.
"The form is good and it’s nice to be in contention again this week. It
wasn’t easy out there today, so although I may not be in the lead, at least I
am right in there with a chance."
All eyes will now be focused on the tomorrow’s final round of the
Sunshine Coast Masters to be played at the Twin Waters Golf Club, with all
players, including the leaders set to tee off at 10:00am.
