Lincoln Tighe has fired a new course record of 10-under 62 in the second round of the Ian Weigh Toyota Rockhampton Pro-Am to hold a one-stroke lead heading into the weekend.
After opening with a 1-under 71 yesterday, Tighe jumped out of the blocks early making three birdies and an eagle on his opening nine. Five more birdies on the back nine, including two at his final two holes would be good enough for the lead and a round of 62.
"I am really happy with the way I played today, making the most of the opportunities that I gave myself," said Tighe following his round.
"My length off the tee certainly assists me with generating a number of birdie chances, so it was nice to take advantage of that throughout the round today."
"My game has been in pretty good shape of late and although I didn’t quite perform how I would have liked last week in Mackay, I knew I wasn’t far away from a good week. Hopefully I continue to convert over the weekend and give myself a chance on Sunday afternoon."
Tighe, the current New South Wales PGA Champion, holds a one shot lead over first round leader Damien Jordan and Rory Bourke who find themselves at 10-under. Pre-tournament favourites Michael Sim and Steven Jeffress find themselves in the hunt, with Sim two shots and Jeffress three shots behind Tighe.
Defending Champion Troy Cox is still in mix after firing consecutive 69’s over the opening two rounds. Cox will be looking for a quick start on what is commonly known as moving day as he attempts to become first two-time winner of the Rockhampton Pro-Am.
Round three of the Ian Weigh Motors Rockhampton Pro-Am gets underway tomorrow morning at 6:50am, with the lead group of Lincoln Tighe and Rory Bourke due to tee off at 12:30pm.
