Jackson returns to Legends winner’s list

"BenThe Peter Thomson designed golf course was in top condition for the field of 63 senior professionals with perfect conditions greeting the morning field before winds picked up throughout the day.

Featuring in the afternoon field, defending champion Peter Fowler resurrected his round after a shaky start to fire 5-under 67.

Going on to equal Fowler’s score and record his first win on tour in 2019 was Englishman Ben Jackson, who now

holds two career wins on the Ladbrokes Legends Tour.

Competition was tight across the field with four players including Glenn Joyner, Martin Pettigrew, Darryl Purchase and Peter Lonard tied for 3rd place on 4-under the card.

Victorian Wesley Greene set the pace in the morning field with a round of 2-under 70. Despite adding four birdies to his tally, near-misses on course saw Greene pushed back to an equal 10th place finish at the tournament’s conclusion behind Brad Burns, Michael Harwood and Martin Peterson in 7th.

The Ladbrokes Legends Tour next moves to Tura Beach Country Club in New South Wales on 21 March for the Bega Cheese Pro-Am.

""Firing a round of 3-under 69 on the Peter Thomson layout Fowler, who lost a ball with his first shot of the day, reeled off five birdies to win by two shots.

Fellow Staysure Tour player Mike Harwood was equal second with John Martin, Mike Zilko and last years Ladbrokes Legends Tour Order of Merit winner Brad Burns at 1-under the card

This was the first time the Ladbrokes Legends Tour has visited Club Mandalay and all players were impressed by the quality of the course and all the facilities.

Mike Harwood still leads the 2018 Order of Merit and with only two events remaining before the cut off for the exemption position in to the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, competition will be fierce at Tura Beach’s Bega Cheese Pro-Am next week.

The leader of the Ladbrokes Legends Tour Order of Merit earns a start at Harbor Shores and Harwood has a lead of just under $5,000 over John Onions.

With $100,000 in prize money on offer over the next two events, the race for top spot is well and truly alive.
