Antonio Murdaca has won two consecutive tournaments on the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series following a sensational showing at the Burke Urban PGA Golf Classic.

"AntonioCompeting consistently at Murray Bridge Golf Club, outstanding rounds of 65, 65 and 63 across the three days lead the local to a tournament total of 11-under 193.

Finishing one shot behind Murdaca was round one leader Anthony Choat whose rounds of 63, 65 and 66 for 10-under 194 saw him hold a three shot lead over the remainder of the field.

A fellow South Australian local, Choat remained well and truly in contention throughout the tournament, starting his final round with six consecutive threes to turn a one shot deficit into a four shot lead after only seven holes.

However an in-form Murdaca, winner of the Flagstaff Hill Pro-Am only a week before, remained hot on his heels throughout the day.

Murdaca’s blistering stretch of four birdies in five holes midway through the final round turned his deficit to Choat into a one shot lead, a lead he was able to hold over the back nine to secure victory.

Overnight leader and the only Trainee Professional in the field, Connor Chant from Aston Hills Golf Club, endured a nightmare start to the day after a stunning score of 61 in round two.

A double bogey 6 on the opening hole was the first blunder for Chant, with a further two bogeys on his next two hole securing his fate for a final round total of 71 and a fourth place finish behind Andrew Schonewille in third place.

Chant was one of three players to tie for fourth, concluding the three-day tournament alongside Brady Watt and Scott Laycock.

The South Australian swing of the Ladbrokes Legends Tour now moves to Port Hughes for the Buildlogix Coppercoast Pro-Am.

It was another perfect day at Murray Bridge Golf Club for the final round of the Burke Urban PGA Classic, the sun was shining all week and the course was in magnificent condition.

""Matt Millar thrived in the conditions and continued his fine form with a 2-under 66 to finish at 14-under the card.

Millar started his final round a little shaky and was 1-over through five holes before he steadied to fire four back-9 birdies to claim a comfortable victory.

Millar’s rounds of 61, 63 and 66 handed him a seven shot victory over Ruben Lal who finished 7-under the card.

Rory Bourke had a double bogey on the last to drop to third place at 6-under the card.

Scott Laycock fired 2-under 66 with a great 4-under 30 on the back-9 to finish outright fourth while Ben Ford fired the low round of the day with 4-under 64 in the final round.

Max McCardle was the winner of the “Shoot-Out” nearest the pin competition held on the 18th hole at the completion of play from 75 metres away.

""Millar kept a clean card with no bogeys recorded alongside his seven birdies at Murray Bridge Golf Club.

Millar took full advantage of the perfect conditions to put himself in a commanding position for the remainder of the pro-am and was only two shots shy of the course record 59 with plenty of chances to match the elusive sub-60 score.

Tied for second place at 2-under 66 is Glenelg Golf Club Assistant Professional Sam Hughes, Scott Laycock of Victoria and Jin Jeong of Korea.

Local amateur invitee Jack Thompson, a winner of the prestigious Riversdale Cup last month is lurking one shot further back at 1-under 67.

PGA Professionals from across Australia are set to excite at the Murray Bridge PGA Classic this April.

PGA Professionals from across Australia are set to excite at the Murray Bridge PGA Classic this April.

"JasonThe Murray Bridge PGA Classic will again be one of the feature events on the South Australian swing of the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series this April. The event remains a popular one amongst the Professionals especially as it’s one of the only 54 hole tournaments on the pro-am schedule.

“A lot of our Professionals use events like the Murray Bridge PGA Classic to prepare for bigger four round tournaments on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia later in the year,” said Heath McLeod Tournament Coordinator at the PGA of Australia.

“Last year we saw South Australian local Jason Norris win here at Murray Bridge before winning the Fiji International, a tri-sanctioned event by the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia, European Tour and Asian Tour,” added McLeod.

Winning the Fiji International earned Norris status on the lucrative European Tour and therefore his schedule won’t permit a return visit to Murray Bridge, however, he sends his best wishes to the tournament organisers.

“The Murray Bridge PGA Classic is always a wonderful event and I was honoured to be the 2017 champion. The prize money I received from my win took a lot of pressure off me financially which helped me win the Fiji International,” said Jason Norris.

“I am disappointed to miss my title defence this year but I will certainly be watching, from afar, with interest to see who is able to claim the win this year.

“I wish everyone involved with the tournament the best of luck.”

The tournament is a major event for the regional city of Murray Bridge with both Professionals and amateurs set to stay in the region over the ANZAC day period.

“This is the third year that the PGA tournament has been held in Murray Bridge which is growing in popularity and does provide a national profile of the region along with its economic benefits,” said Brenton Lewis, Mayor of The Rural City of Murray Bridge.

Play begins at 12pm on Wednesday the 25th of April, providing the golfing public the perfect afternoon of entertainment following the ANZAC Day observations.
