A bogey-free round of 5-under 67 has seen Peter Fowler take out the 2019 David Mercer Senior Classic at Killara Golf Club.
Fresh from winning The Australian Golf Club Legends Pro-Am earlier this week, Fowler sprinted out of the blocks at the Ladbrokes Legends Tour tournament to take a one-stroke victory over Michael Harwood.
Fowler headlined a stellar field including the likes of Peter Senior, Peter O’Malley, Terry Price and Rodger Davis, all vying for the title named after one of the most iconic and distinguished Club Professionals in David Mercer.
“Dave is an absolute legend and I’m honoured to win the event named in his honour,” Fowler said.
“I have been working with Gary Barter from The Australian over the past few weeks and that has really made a difference to my result and I was happy to get the win today.”
The David Mercer Classic was the first public showing of the newly designed Killara layout and the PGA Professionals were singing the praises of designer Harley Kruse.
“They have certainly made the course much more accessible and, even better, the course is very pleasing to the eye,” he said.
Michael Harwood claimed second place with a round of 4-under 68.
Other notable scores came from John Wade and Steve Conran who finished the tournament at 2-under par.
The Ladbrokes Legends Tour kicks off again next Monday 18 November at Castle Hill Country Club for the NSW PGA Seniors Championship.
Peter Fowler has claimed victory in the $70,000 David Mercer Senior Classic at Killara Golf Club after a round of 2-under 70 while Michael Harwood earns a start in the 2018 KitchenAid U.S. Senior PGA Championsip.

The richest single day Ladbrokes Legends Pro-Am event in the country attracted a stellar field including Craig Parry, Rodger Davis and Peter Lonard who made his debut on the Ladbrokes Legends Tour.
For Fowler, success has come regularly at Killara having won the 2011 Australian PGA Seniors Championship and now successfully defending his 2017 David Mercer Senior Classic title.
“I really enjoy competing at Killara, the hospitality and atmosphere is fantastic. It is great to see David Mercer at the event and the legacy he has passed on to current Professionals Greg Hohnen and Patrick Fairweather,” said Fowler.
The win also elevated Fowler to the top of the Ladbrokes Legends Tour Order of Merit, $216 clear of Michael Harwood who will receive a start in the KitchenAid US PGA Seniors Championship as Fowler is already exempt.
“I am really looking forward to representing the Ladbrokes Legends Tour at the event at the end of May and hope I can perform well,” said Harwood.
Steve Conran, Darryl Purchase and Martin Petersen finished tied second with 1-under par rounds of 71.

A host of iconic Australian golfers will contest the $AU70,000 prize purse with two time Australian Open champion Peter Lonard making his debut on the Ladbrokes Legends Tour.
Lonard will be joined by Peter Senior, Rodger Davis, Craig Parry and Peter Fowler all vying to win the David Mercer Classic.
As a further incentive the player leading the Ladbrokes Legends Tour Order of Merit at the conclusion of this event will earn themselves a spot in the KitchenAid US Senior PGA Championship to be played at Harbor Shores in Michigan 24-27 May.
Currently Mike Harwood leads the way with Glenn Joyner and John Onions hot on his heels.
The $AU12,600 for first place means anyone in the current top-8 can make a chrage and take out the exemption.
David McKenzie is also entered into the field and will be a strong favourite coming off his 3rd place finish in Mississippi on the PGA Tour Champions last week.
