Steve Conran has taken a two-shot win at the second staging of the Elgin Valley Beerwah Legends Pro-Am with a superb round of 5-under 67.
A strong field of 67 Professionals gathered for the Ladbrokes Legends Tour event including order of merit leader Mike Harwood, Richard Backwell and Peter Senior.
Conran made the most of clear Queensland conditions to make a total of six birdies on holes 4, 5, 11, 12, 14 and 15 at Beerwah Golf Course with his only bogey coming on par-4 10th hole.
“We have some really good golf courses to play in the region over the next three days and no doubt that’s the reason for the really good fields including today,” said Conran after his round.
“The greens were exceptionally quick out there and with the course set up really tight off the tee, it felt a lot like many of the courses in Japan or where I’m from in country NSW.”
David Hando took out second place with a round of 3-under 69 to finish ahead of Peter Senior in third place at 2-under the card and David Merriman in fourth at 1-under.
Making even on the par-72 course were Michael Harwood, Darren Rix and Mark Tickle who tied for fifth place.

An almost flawless round consisting of seven birdies an only one bogey on the par-4 8th hole wrapped up a great week for Conran, finishing 14-under par with rounds of 71, 65 and 66.
Playing alongside Conran in the final group, Richard Backwell of Queensland held onto second place with rounds of 69, 68 and 71 for an 8-under total.
Just one shot behind, New Zealander Dean Sipson’s last round of 66 saw him leap up the leaderboard to tie for third place with Ben Jackson on 7-under.
Tournament favourite and Ladbrokes Legends Tour Order of Merit leader Michael Harwood held fifth spot alongside defending champion Brad Burns who mounted a solid defence with rounds of 75, 67 and 69 for 5-under.
Wet, windy weather following a rain delay in round one at Natadola hampered Burns’ three-peat attempt while improved weather for the following rounds saw Burns fight back to finish among the front-runners.
The 45 senior professionals, joined by some 50 amateurs from Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific enjoyed a great three days playing Natadola and Denarau which were both presented immaculately for the tournament.

A field of 58 senior professionals that included Peter Senior, Peter Lonard, Mike Harwood and Peter Fowler to name a few struggled to control the ball on the fast-running course in blustery conditions.
The three Peters all struggled in the conditions with Lonard’s 3-over 74 the best of the trio, however it was New South Welshman Steve Conran who handled the conditions best with an exceptional round of 69.
Glenn Joyner, John Wade and Canadian Ken Tarling ran equal second, one shot back at 1-under 70.
A run of four birdies from 10 to 13 was the highlight of Conran’s round with the only real blemish being a double bogey 6 on the short par-4 15th.
Steve Conran thanked the club and sponsors for their support and was happy to have notched up his first win in 12 months.
Conran also praised the high standard of play currently on the Ladbrokes Legends Tour, making it much harder for competitors to record wins.
