Stewart relishes winning feeling in Philippines

It took almost a decade to win his first professional title but New South Welshman Tim Stewart has added a second at the Central Azucarere de Tarlac Open on the Philippine Golf Tour of Asia.

Victor of the 2008 Tasmanian Open prior to turning professional, Stewart broke through for his first four-round title at the 2018 Tahiti Open in May last year and had to endure some tense moments before closing out his second victory inside 18 months.

Top 30 in each of his past two starts on the PGA TOUR Series-China, Stewart was one shot off the lead after an opening 67 at the Luisita Golf and Country Club but by the start of the final round had opened up a four-shot buffer.

But as the 2006 Australian Amateur champion knows only too well, winning professional golf tournaments is never easy.

An even-par round of 72 in the final round opened the door for Filipino Clyde Mondilla to draw level with a superb round of 6-under 66, Stewart prevailing in a sudden-death playoff to move to sixth on the Order of Merit.

A veteran in Asia, David Gleeson also finished inside the top 10 at the Robert Trent Jones Jnr layout with Damien Jordan tied for 14th with Simon Viitakangas and Jack Lane-Weston both inside the top 25.
