Some of the game’s best young guns will go head to head with some of the past and present stars in the coming weeks as the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series reaches the NSW Central Coast.
Nathan Green, Peter O’Malley, James Nitties and Aaron Price are just some of the marquee Professionals who will be in action in the coming days on some of the best courses in Australia.
Jamie Hook, Callan O’Reilly and Clayton Bridges are just two of the up and coming stars who will be looking to establish a strong hold on the national Order of Merit and with over $75,000 in prize money on offer, the week ahead provides an important stepping stone for many aspiring Tour Professionals.
More than 60 Professionals are set to compete in the Noraville Earthmovers Morisset Pro-Am, which begins on Saturday morning at Morisset Country Club, an event which has seen the likes of David Bransdon, Matt Millar and Leigh McKechnie dominate and all in action again in the week ahead.
McKechnie, a Newcastle local, is coming off an impressive victory in Sydney this week, carding rounds of 63 and 68 to tie for the win at the Parramatta City Junior Pro-Am.
"I always love coming back home to play and sleep in my own bed which is helpful," said McKechnie.
"The fields we have up here this week are incredibly strong so it’s going to be tough to get a win but I am playing well so I am hoping things will go my way," he added.
The likes of James Nitties, Aaron Price, Nick Flanagan and Ashley Hall have all returned home after a demanding season in the US competing on the Web.com Tour.
"It’s nice to come home and have the chance to play some pro-ams around Sydney and the coast," said Nitties, who will be heading back to America in November for the second stage of the Web.com Tour Qualifying School along with several other Australians who continue to compete and chase the lucrative PGA TOUR, which Jason Day continues to dominate in 2015.
"It has been great to see the Aussie success this year and it certainly inspires us all to keep working hard and realise that it’s possible" said Price, who won the 2013 Mazda NSW Open and is enjoying life as a father in Jacksonville, Florida.
The Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series moves from Morriset onto Merewether Golf Club on Tuesday 29th before Wyong host the tour on Wednesday for the Austbrokers Central Coast Pro-Am and then onto The Dewhurst Kooindah Waters Pro-Am on Thursday 1st October.
The final event of the week will be at Waratah Golf Club for the Macquarie Garage Doors Waratah Pro-Am on Saturday 4th October, with former PGA TOUR winner Nathan Green looking to repeat his success from 2013.
"All these courses are world class and while it’s been a tough year for these clubs suffering from severe storm damage and some horrible weather, we think these events really provide a great opportunity for clubs to showcase their course and facility to the region and provide a wonderful event for members and guests" said a PGA spokesman.
After a few days rest, Professionals will be back in action at the Tooheys Muree Golf Club Pro-Am on Wednesday 7th and celebrates it’s 75th anniversary. The following week will see Everglades Country Club host it’s annual Hahn Premium Pro-Am pro-am on Friday 16th.
Entry for each event is free and tee times and daily scores can be found at www.pga.org.au/proam
