More than 12 months since his Web.com debut, Travis Smyth has once again come through Monday qualifying to earn a start on the primary pathway to the PGA TOUR.

As a result of Smyth playing his way into the field there will be three Australians and three Kiwis teeing it up in the Evans Scholars Invitational at The Glen Club in Chicago, Brett Drewitt and Rhein Gibson joined by the in-form Tim Wilkinson, Steven Alker and Nick Voke.

Smyth’s sole appearance on the Web.com Tour came in April last year after he also Monday qualified for the United Leasing and Finance Championship, missing the cut with rounds of 75-78.

A round of 69 at the Stone Orchard Golf Club was good enough for a share of third and a 2.16pm tee time on Thursday alongside American pair Alexander Hicks and Gustavo Morantes.

Currently ranked 617 in the world, Smyth has missed the cut in each of his two most recent starts on the Asian Tour with a best finish in 2019 a tie for 13th at the New Zealand Open.

As Smyth looks to make an immediate impression, the inaugural Evans Scholars Invitational provides Wilkinson with the chance to move further up the Web.com Tour moneylist.

Consecutive top-10 finishes have moved the left-hander inside the top-25 on the Order of Merit and a step closer to securing a PGA TOUR card for 2020.

Alker and Gibson have both flirted with the top-25 in the early stages of the season but now sit 42nd and 43rd respectively.

Transformed from a former Naval base to one of Chicago’s finest public courses by acclaimed architect Tom Fazio, The Glen Club was host to a Web.com Tour event from 2002-2008, Aussies Andre Stolz and Brendan Jones winning consecutive LaSalle Bank Opens there in 2003 and 2004.
