Cameron Smith couldn’t maintain the momentum that earned him his first full field PGA TOUR start, missing the cut by two shots at the Sanderson Farms event in Mississippi at the weekend.
Coming off an impressive top five finish at the co-sanctioned CIMB Classic in Malaysia the previous week Smith headed to the US hoping to keep a good run of form going.
In his last six starts dating back to September the 21-year-old hadn’t finished outside the top 10 but he struggled in the unfamiliar US conditions with rounds of 72-73 to finish 1-over for the two rounds and two outside the cut line.
In just his second years as a Professional Smith has marked himself as a player to watch with his good performance in Asia this year.
Smith was one of four Australians in this week’s field with former TOUR players Rod Pampling and Greg Chalmers both earning starts and Cameron Percy teeing up for the fourth time as a full member for 2014/15.
Percy missed his first cut of the season while both Pampling (T66) and Chalmers (T69) finished at the tail of the field after over par final rounds.
